The whole area is a great place to practice individual recreation , walking, jogging or cycling. Local forests offer plenty of trails combined with magnificent views and wildlife. Most interesting attractions are natural paths"Following five lakes" admiring the unique flora of oligotrophic lakes or visit the oldest in Europe hydroelectric power plant "Struga".

On wish of our guests it is possible to organize a one-, two-day or longer Słupia river kayaking, horse-drawn carriage rides around the area or in a larger group chariot rides drawn by beautiful horses.

In the autumn, surrounding woods shall ensure mushroom pickers much joy and guarantee a successful harvest.

SOSZYCA - HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT

It is the oldest hydroelectric power plant in Europe built in 1896. Inside you can see how it works. There are also two oldest incandescent lamps (bulbs with carbon filaments), still working, dating back from before 1900, produced by company OSRAM. There you can also find current – generating units made at the beginning of 20 th century. The building has been taken care of since 1945 by the third generation of Mr. Adam Gliszczyński and Mr.Waldemar Gliszczyński. The power plant can be visited during holidays from 12:00 till 18:00, but it is best to arrange it with the guide. Telephone number 0-59 823-13-82.

MIRACHOWO - THE RUINS OF ANOLDMILL IN THE FOREST

Hidden on the right fringe of the forest, the remains of this structure are very difficult to find. So we advise tourists to look at a detailed map. At present what is left of the structure are only concrete pieces of a dike and overgrown canals, which once carried water to the mill. The driving force of the mill was a little river Mirachowska Struga, which flows into river Łeba. The structure which in the past belonged to Warend family burnt down in mysterious circumstances after World War II.

It was also called Larch Manor House. Present day owners do not render the house available to tourists. It is located in the centre of the village. It comes from the turn of 18 th and 19 th century. The wooden framework is especially interesting.

KARTUZY - CHURCH FORMERLY BELONGING TO A MONASTERY

It was built in the years 1383-1403. Around the church 18 hermitages were erected. The church was built by Carthusians (the first monks brought to this area from Bohemia by Jan ofRusocin). Inside there are unique sacral relics: a gothic altar (1444), a baroque altar (1639), figurines of saints, the celebrant’s throne (1677), valuable and rare in Poland leather cordovans from 17 th century and many others. On the southern wall of the presbytery there is a Sundial.Visiting the church is only possible in the presence of the priest or the sexton.

The road to this castle leads through Łapalice. The construction of this castle was started in the1970 s by an entrepreneurfrom Gdańsk, but it has not been completed yet. A monumental house attracts many tourists, who want to see this place. Unfortunately the building can only be seen from behind the fence.

SZYMBARK - THE LONGEST BOARD IN THE WORLD

In the local timber mill there is the longest (36,83) board in the world. The board comes from the tree cut in 2002. It is in the Guiness Book of World Records. It weighs about 1 100 kilograms. A table for 200 people was made from it. It was hand cut for 9 days – 16 hours a day – and 14 saws were used to do it. The last cut was made by President Lech Wałęsa. The board can be seen at Danmar timber mill.

RĘBOSZEWO - BRODNICA DOLNA: GOLD MOUNTAIN

Beauty spot at Brodno and Ostrzyckie lakes. There is a huge monument commemorating Kashubian guerillas fighting in the area during World War II. The celebration of strawberry picking takes place here annually. Strawberries are widely grown in Kaszuby. To find out the exact date of the event contact the Tourist Information in Kartuzy. WIEŻYCA - THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN IN NORTHERN POLAND

The highest mountain (329 above sea level) not only in the north of the country but also in all central Europe at this latitude. At the top there is a view terrace (35 m), which was named after Pope John Paul II. To get there you have to walk through the forest. The car can be left at the car park near the road to Szymbark.

BĘDOMIN - THE MUSEUM OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM

The unique in Poland and Europe museum of the national anthem shows the history of this piece of music and the life of its author JózefWybicki, who lived in the property in Będomin. An interesting exhibit is a music box playing MazurekDąbrowskiego. You can also visit the exhibition of the White Eagle with 1300 cards with the eagle as well as sculptures, decorations, medals and banners. Near the museum there is a 400-year-old oak. It is situated near the railway station in PrzemysłowaStreet on the site of the 19 th century steam engine depot. There are original steam engines and other railway vehicles used in the pre-electricity era.Museum open daily from 10:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m.

OWŚNICE - DEVIL STONE

One of the biggest boulders in Kaszuby. Legend says that once the devil wanted to destroy one of the sacral buildings, picked up the stone and flew towards the church. While he was flying, he was thunderstruck and dropped the stone. While he was trying to pick it up again the sun shone. The devil wanted to shelter from the killing rays of God’s light and jumped through the hole into the stone. The local priest put a cross in the hole through which the devil had jumped and probably the Devil is still inside. The height of the boulder is 2 m and the circumference is more than 13 m.

The history of this place dates back to 1 st century. There are 140 graves, 20 burial mounds and 4 stone circles. Some people think it is a mysterious place of rare negative radiation, whereas others experience positive impressions. It is worth checking this in person.

SOMINY - SHEPHERD'S HOUSE

This historic farm from the middle of 18 th century was once a shepherd’s house. Inside there is original equipment and household appliances. There is also an original pigsty and a coach house. The museum can be visited daily in July and August.

PYSZNO - THE CEMETARY OF FOREST OFFICERS

It is said to be the only one in the country. On top of Bukowa Mountain there are 15 cast-iron crosses, five stone plaques and other graves. The cemetery was created in 1874. The first person to be buried here was Otto Smalina, who developed a method of counting the tree flesh, which has been used worldwide. There are also many legends connected with the place.

Brick – granite Neo-romanesque church built at the end of 19 th century. It was built on the site of a 16 th century church. There are a lot of sacral objects worth seeing: 3 baroque altars, 18 th century wooden altars, a wooden baptismal font made in 1800, the sculpture of St. Nicholas, pipe organ made in 1915.

PIASZNO - LEMAN MOUNTAIN

It is the highest place in the Bytów district. There you can find Klemens Leman’s farm with a 20 metre high view terrace. The hospitality of Klemens Leman is absolutely unique. He built the terrace with his own resources and does not charge for using it. Nearby there are stone circles discovered by him. Mr. Leman willingly accommodates tourists. The farm is situated at 220 metres above sea level.

BYTÓW - TEUTONIC CASTLE

Built in the years 1398-1405 by the Teutonic Order. It is one of the most magnificent Teutonic structures which have survived. It houses a museum, which is definitely worth seeing. BYTÓW - A RAILWAY BRIDGE NEVER USED BY A TRAIN

This brick bridge over the river Boruja was built around 1890. The bridge has never been used by a train because the railway line was redesigned. On the bridge one can notice four blazons– the ones of Prussia, Pomerania, Bytów and the German Railway.
